All of the latest American Idol gossip. It's not news that in the finale face-off between the two Davids, it was David Cook who won the hearts of America. But votes were so close between the AI winner and runner-up David Archuletta that some big-time Idol fans felt the wrong winner had been crowned. But recent album sales and online downloads are singing a different tune.
David Cook dominated the Billboards Hot 100 chart, which is a tough list to get on as it combines sales and radio airplay, with 11 of his songs debuting on the list. He's just second to the Beatles who had 14 hits on the chart in 1964.
Of course, the much-remembered David Archuletta rendition of 'Imagine' sold an impressive 71-thousand copies and he also took home some good sales for 11 other songs in the Top 200. Other Idol runner-up songs like Jason Castro's 'Hallelujah', Brooke White's 'Let It Be' and Michael John's 'Dream On' broke into the list as well.
But David Cook definitely proved to be the most successful with 14 songs on the Top 200 list and 3 of them making it into the Top 10. His 'Time of my Life' hit debuted at number-one with more than 235-thousand digital downloads. With Cook's album TKO on the music charts, it's looking like he will likely be joining the ranks of past A-I hopefuls who sang their way into the pro music world. |
